Privacy

We protect student’s privacy. We collect only the minimum amount of information necessary to provide effective and efficient service (first name, local library, and initial question). We will not disclose any of the information we collect from students to any party, in any manner that would identify them, except in order to fulfill their information request.

The askON research service is a “closed” chat service. It is not a chat room. Students chat one-on-one with trained askON librarians. askON staff will never ask students to provide personal information (phone, email, address, library/student card number etc.) during a chat session and we strongly discourage student’s from offering it. The only time students are asked for personal or contact information is if they visit the service after hours. When askON is closed students have the opportunity to send their question via email to their local library. If they wish a response they need to provide their email. This is voluntary and the information is encrypted and secured.

All transcripts are encrypted and housed on a secure server in the UK for 13 months.
